Toronto Paraplegia Lawyers

Were you hurt in an accident that left you paralyzed? Did the accident cause paraplegia? This spinal cord injury often results in significant disabilities which make living life as planned nearly impossible. Suddenly, activities that used to be part of daily life, such as playing sports or walking the dog, are no longer possible. These injuries are often caused by traumatic accidents such as car crashes, slip and falls, and sports injuries. If your injury was caused by someone else’s negligence or recklessness, you are legally entitled to financial compensation for all your suffering and expenses.

At Mazin & Associates, PC, we firmly believe that victims of spinal cord injuries deserve more than the bare minimum settlement that many insurance agencies try to force upon them. We work tirelessly to ensure that our clients receive the highest amount of compensation possible, whether that be from the at-fault party or the insurance provider. Do I Need A Spinal Cord Injury Lawyer?

Victims who suffer serious spinal cord injuries that result in paralysis will often need long-term treatment and care. The costs of this care can add up quickly, and many families may wonder how they can afford to pay for their loved one’s needs. Insurance companies, unfortunately, are often reluctant to pay the full and fair amount that accident victims are owed. Should you choose to negotiate without representation, you may feel pressured to accept a deal that lands you in long-term debt.

Lawyers have the legal experience and knowledge necessary to make sure you get all the compensation you deserve. Through years of experience, they can investigate the circumstances of each case and pick out relevant details that may seem insignificant to those unfamiliar with the legal process. They can then use this detailed evidence to negotiate with insurance adjusters and, if necessary, opposing lawyers to ensure you get the maximum amount of money. Hiring a lawyer allows you to relax and focus on your recovery while also making sure you earn the most money possible.

What is Paraplegia?

Paraplegia is the name for paralysis of the lower half of the body. This injury is sustained when the spinal cord below the cervical region is injured. This results in the loss of sensation in the legs and lower trunk. Losing control of one’s lower half creates a multitude of additional complications, including reduced bladder and bowel control, and sexual dysfunction.

The level of paralysis incurred depends on the severity of your injury and the parts of the spinal cord that were damaged. Most often, an injury below the cervical spine causes paraplegia and not quadriplegia, which is paralysis of all four limbs. There are 33 vertebrae along the length of your spinal cord, and just seven of them sit in the cervical region. Most paraplegics have use of their hands and arms. Complications with internal organs are most often contained within the bowel and bladder area.

Paraplegia can be caused by any spinal injury that injuries this particular region of the spin, including events such as:
